Positivity in the presence of initial system-environment correlation

    Get PDF
The constraints imposed by the initial system-environment correlation can lead to nonpositive Dynamical maps. We find the conditions for positivity and complete positivity of such dynamical maps by using the concept of an assignment map. Any initial system-environment correlations make the assignment map nonpositive, while the positivity of the dynamical map depends on the interplay between the assignment map and the system-environment coupling. We show how this interplay can reveal or hide the nonpositivity of the assignment map. We discuss the role of this interplay in Markovian models.Comment: close to the published version. 5 pages, 1 figur

Celebrating Diversity through Spirituality in the Workplace: Transforming Organizations Holistically

    Get PDF
Managing diversity effectively is the key to attract and retain a productive workforce. Research demonstrates that celebrating diversity leads to greater productivity, increased creativity, and heightened morale and motivation. Organizations often benefit from the differing perspectives and rich experiences a diverse workforce provides. Similarly, organizations can enhance their creativity by encouraging diverse perspectives and opinions. Thus, issues of managing diversity, valuing diversity, and celebrating diversity have assumed added importance. This paper suggests that diversity is not a problem, but rather a solution to most of the challenges organizations face such as employee engagement and participation. Managing workforce diversity effectively transcends meeting a company’s legal requirements and complying with equal opportunity and non-discrimination regulation. Leaders need to understand and deal constructively with their own biases and prejudices that hinder diversity. Celebrating diversity is the extension of healthy spirituality that leads us to celebrate our differences and view diversity as different manifestations of the underlying Unity that permeates every phenomenon. This paper discusses key advantages of celebrating diversity, pinpoints barriers to organizational diversity, and offers some perspectives to overcome barriers to inclusiveness

Simplicial methods and the homology of groups.

PhDThis thesis generalizes the simplicial methods of defining derived functors and proves characterization theorems about them. In particular, we show that our methods also generalize an alternative way of defining derived functors, We use our definitions to define the higher Baer invariants of a group relative to a variety of groups and compute them in special cases. Finally, we deduce a long exact sequence in the homology of groups

Quantum discord bounds the amount of distributed entanglement

The ability to distribute quantum entanglement is a prerequisite for many fundamental tests of quantum theory and numerous quantum information protocols. Two distant parties can increase the amount of entanglement between them by means of quantum communication encoded in a carrier that is sent from one party to the other. Intriguingly, entanglement can be increased even when the exchanged carrier is not entangled with the parties. However, in light of the defining property of entanglement stating that it cannot increase under classical communication, the carrier must be quantum. Here we show that, in general, the increase of relative entropy of entanglement between two remote parties is bounded by the amount of non-classical correlations of the carrier with the parties as quantified by the relative entropy of discord. We study implications of this bound, provide new examples of entanglement distribution via unentangled states and put further limits on this phenomenon.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, RevTeX4; Accepted for publication in Phys. Foundations of Quantum Discord

This paper summarizes the basics of the notion of quantum discord and how it relates to other types of correlations in quantum physics. We take the fundamental information theoretic approach and illustrate our exposition with a number of simple examples.Comment: 3 pages, special issue edited by Diogo de Oliveira Soares Pinto et a

Farmakokinetika eprinomektina u ovaca nakon potkožne primjene.

The pharmacokinetics of eprinomectin was determined in lactating sheep following subcutaneous administration at a dose rate of 0.2 mg kg-1. The eprinomectin concentration in plasma was determined using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with a fluorescence detector. The kinetics of plasma concentrations were analysed using the non-compartment model. The maximum plasma concentration of 24.44 ng/mL occurred 2 days post-administration. Following subcutaneous administration of eprinomectin in sheep, the value of plasma elimination half-life, the area under the plasma concentration time curve (AUC) and mean residence time (MRT) were 388.52 ± 0.25 h. 4282.10 ng.h/mL and 374.50 h, respectively. The values of V (area), Vd(ss) and Cl(B) were 20.50 mL/kg, 13.70 mL/kg and 0.04 mL/h/kg, respectively. This study demonstrates that subcutaneous administration of eprinomectin led to higher bioavailability and longer mean residence time with a lower dose than a pour-on application, and that an injectable formulation may be applied in lactating sheep with zero withdrawal period.

Measuring Energy Poverty: Focusing on What Matters

    Get PDF
The provision of modern energy services is recognised as a critical foundation for sustainable development, and is central to the everyday lives of people. Effective policies to dramatically expand modern energy access need to be grounded in a robust information-base. Metrics that can be used for comparative purposes and to track progress towards targets therefore represent an essential support tool. This paper reviews the relevant literature, and discusses the adequacy and applicability of existing instruments to measure energy poverty. Drawing on those insights, it proposes a new composite index to measure energy poverty. Both the associated methodology and initial results for several African countries are discussed. Whereas most existing indicators and composite indices focus on assessing the access to energy, or the degree of development related to energy, our new index – the Multidimensional Energy Poverty Index (MEPI) – focuses on the deprivation of access to modern energy services. It captures both the incidence and intensity of energy poverty, and provides a new tool to support policymaking.
